Enkutatash! | Ethiopian/Eritrean New Year’s Party: with Entoto Band

In September, autumn begins in Ethiopia and Eritrea. The land is covered with yellow meskel flowers, “Adey Abeba”. This moment brings the new year.

Experience these rich East African cultures through delicious Ethiopian food, a traditional coffee ceremony, fashion, a children’s drawing workshop, DJ Terrie Ex’s obscure Ethiopian and Eritrean cassettes and more! The New Year’s celebration will be closed with a swinging performance by the Entoto Band, followed by a traditional New Year’s fire. A ritual fire called “Chibbo”, which is burned by men as a sign of the desire to chase away the old spirits and make room for new – better – spirits.

Entoto Band
Entoto is a nine-piece band, with Ethiopian singer, Eritrean singer/saxophonist, horns, hammond organ, synths, keys, guitar, drums and percussion. In addition to own interpretations of classics from both countries, the repertoire also consists of own work in the Ethiopian language Amharic and the Tygrinia of Eritrea. A number of guest musicians make their appearance during this concert, such as Broken Brass Ensemble and an Ethiopian-Dutch rapper Dichter. Very danceable and accessible. The debut album will be released this year, of which some songs can already be listened to via soundcloud.
